Kenya Evaluation outcomes for CVA to 2012 (as part of multi-country evaluations).
Education Outcomes:
1. Moderate improvement in academic performance (based on an average of test scores of the schools covered by the ADPs) although some schools are lagging
2. Reduced teacher absenteeism
3. Teaching and learning materials are being purchased as per government standards
4. Increased transparency of funds for Free Primary Education through public display on school notice boards
5. Increased collective action by School Management Committees including: monitoring procurement of teaching, learning materials and their equitable distribution, monitoring teachers attendance, monitoring the conduct of lessons as per lesson plans; monitoring of school inspection services by the Area Education Officials to ensure that the schools are visited and quality assurance support provided, monitoring of support for children to complete their home works including the level of household interference i.e. reduction in incidence of child labour .
6. Community members involved in CVA played a key role in making submissions to government on the education reform process currently underway to ensure alignment to the new constitution including ensuring school fees at not charged as per the free education policy, improved functioning of school management committees, and teacher recruitment
