Description
Losakucha Health Centre is located in Kacheri sub county in Kotido district in Karamoja region in Uganda.
This health centre had taken long without a health staff (Health assistant) and hygiene and sanitation was in a very sorry state. Because of the state of the worrying state hygiene and sanitation in the whole of Karamoja region, World Vision through the Crater Foundation started a project to try to contribute to elimination of trachoma in the region particularly Kotido district.
Through the project, a team of CVA practitioners was identified from the community, trained and made a work plan to advocacy for improved service delivery in the sector of hygiene and sanitation in the district. The CVA practitioners were equipped with the minimum standards for WASH for which they were supposed to use to monitor service delivery in their area.
In September 2017, the CVA practitioners carried out community gatherings across the 4 parishes in Kacheri sub county and one of the challenges identified was the indaquate staffing at Losakucha Health Centre 11; the health centre only had 2 staff a potter and the incharge who were already overwhelmed with work and could not carry out outreaches in the community. A committee was set up to ensure that lobbying starts with the district to have another staff posted at the health centre. The committee did their work and the district posted a staff at the health centre.
The staff posted is now able to work with the CVA practitioners to carry out community outreaches on hygiene and sanitation.
